Trump Claims Israel Has Agreed to 60-Day Gaza Ceasefire Terms

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Israel has agreed to the “necessary conditions” to finalize a proposed 60-day ceasefire in Gaza.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that the United States would “work with all parties to end the war” during the proposed ceasefire period. However, he did not provide specific details about the terms of the deal.

“The Qataris and Egyptians, who have worked very hard to help bring peace, will deliver this final proposal,” Trump wrote. “I hope… that Hamas takes this Deal, because it will not get better IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE.”

Despite Trump’s claims, Israel has not officially confirmed any agreement to the ceasefire terms.

Hamas is “prepared to agree to any proposal, provided the conditions for ending the war are clearly met or lead to its complete cessation,” said spokesperson Taher al-Nunu.

Israel’s Foreign Minister, Gideon Sa’ar, wrote on X that there is a government majority in favor of a “framework to release hostages,” stressing that the opportunity “must not be missed.”

For Israel, the release of most or ideally all remaining hostages held in Gaza remains a non-negotiable element of any deal.

Of the estimated 50 hostages still in captivity, more than 20 are believed to be alive. Their ongoing detention has fueled regular public demonstrations across Israel, demanding both their release and an end to the conflict.

While public support for ending the war appears to be growing according to a recent Israeli newspaper poll a survey conducted Wednesday by the Israel Democracy Institute reveals that a majority of Israelis still lack confidence in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and question his motives.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has for months insisted on achieving “complete victory” over Hamas before ending the war.

It remains unclear whether his position will shift under renewed pressure from Washington a factor that could prove pivotal in securing a deal.

Trump’s announcement comes ahead of a scheduled meeting with Netanyahu next week, during which the U.S. president has said he will be “very firm.”

Trump has previously expressed confidence in Netanyahu’s willingness to end the conflict. “He wants to. I can tell you he wants to. I think we’ll have a deal next week,” he said.

Hamas, for its part, has signaled a willingness to agree to a ceasefire—provided it leads to a full end to the war. Without such a guarantee, however, Hamas negotiators may question the value of releasing all hostages if the Israeli military is likely to resume its bombardment of Gaza.

Another key issue that could influence the signing of an agreement potentially during Netanyahu’s visit to Washington next week is Hamas’s demand for a partial Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza, at least for the duration of the ceasefire.

The international community is also expected to push strongly for the resumption of full-scale, UN-backed humanitarian aid deliveries into Gaza.

“We are putting pressure on Hamas, and if they will not come to the table, the only option we will have to bring back the hostages is to apply more military pressure,” he said. “The war will end when the hostages are back home,” he added.

Last week, a senior Hamas official told the BBC that mediators have intensified efforts to broker a new ceasefire and hostage release deal, but that negotiations with Israel remain stalled.

Trump’s comments come just days after Israel ordered new evacuations in northern Gaza in anticipation of further military operations.

At least 20 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli air strike on a seafront café in Gaza City on Monday, according to medics and eyewitnesses.

Israel launched its military campaign in Gaza following the Hamas attack on 7 October 2023, in which around 1,200 people were killed. Since then, at least 56,647 people have been killed in Gaza, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
