ITU Secretary-General Drives Global Digital Access, Al Readiness, And Cyber Capacity

Bogdan Martin Emphasizes on the need for inclusive global Al governance. Particularly ensuring that developing counrties, women and persons with disabilities were represented in major Al discisions.

She highlighted 1.7 billion funding drive for digital inclusion and introduced a unified Al Standards framework through the UTI- ISO-IEA partnership. She was also vacal about defending against miss information and deep fakes via watermarking, and about scaling practical Al Solutions to achieve The Sustainable Development Goals.

Speaking just before the international Wemen’s day, She revealed that only 30% of women  globally especially in the least developed countries- have internet access, compared to  much higher connectivity in wealthy nations.

She called out the risk of falling behind in Al revolution if digits access is not Universal.

“My biggest fear and what keeps me up at night is the 2.6 billion people that are connected to…if your not part of the digital world, then your not part of Al world.”

Marking Girls im ICT Day, She stressed the importance of Women in Technology leadership, only 25 of ministers are women and theres a 21% gender pay gap in technology. She underscored that without gender balanced perspective, technology desighn and Al development remain flawed.

“Our future is digital and we need women to lead it…We must prepear young women and girls to become tommorrow’s visionary women leaders.”

Bodgan- Martin highlited the role of Statellite in Universal Connectivity:

“With 2.6 Billion people are still offline worldwide Satellite are critical part of our toolkit to connect the unconnected.” She urged that discussions on spectrum and orbit use at future world radiocommunication conferences are essential this mission.

On July 10 in Geneva, Bogdan- Martin held held a discusion with Azerbiajan’s Minister for Digital Development and Transport. They  exchanged views on preparations for the upcoming world Telecommunication Development Conference in Baku. ( 18-27 November 2025), The establishment of an ITU Acceleration center in Azerbaijan, and enhanced collaboration on cybersecurity training programes.

During the ITU’s 160th Celebration im Geneva, Bodgan- Martin reflected on ITU’s techenological  legacy and reaffiremed to commitment to achieving meaninful and unniversal connectivity, emphasizing Al, Spectrum and maltilateral cooperations and current priorities.
