Briton Kasule, a 27-year-old TikTok content creator known by the alias Christian Sythn, has been arrested after posting a viral video in which he openly admitted to illegally reconnecting electricity to his home—and even offered to help his neighbours do the same.
The arrest took place in Busega, a suburb on the outskirts of Kampala, during a joint operation conducted by the Uganda Police and the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL).
Confirming the arrest, Ibrahim Kasita, Principal Stakeholder Engagement Officer at the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA), said Kasule will face charges for tampering with electricity infrastructure—a serious offence under Uganda’s Electricity Act.

Kasita emphasized that unauthorized power reconnections and tampering with electricity meters or lines pose a serious threat to national efforts aimed at safeguarding the power infrastructure.
He warned that such acts are punishable under Section 88 of the Electricity Act, which provides for penalties of up to 12 years in prison upon conviction.
Kasita further noted that individuals conducting electrical installations without a valid permit from ERA’s Installation Permits Committee are also in violation of the law—an offence that carries a penalty of up to two years in prison.
Kasule’s arrest is the latest in a growing number of incidents where TikTok content creators have run afoul of the law. In a recent case, a Congolese national identified as Tokosi-Ngoli was arrested after a video went viral showing him brandishing a machete and threatening customers at a popular restaurant in Munyonyo.
The video sparked widespread panic on social media, with many initially believing it depicted a real attack. However, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango later clarified that the footage was part of a poorly executed comedy skit—filmed without the knowledge or consent of the unsuspecting patrons.

In another alarming incident last week, an unidentified TikToker was filmed sitting dangerously on a wooden chair placed atop a moving taxi—registration number UAZ 910B—near the Nsambya traffic lights.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the content creator had allegedly paid Shs 20,000 to the taxi driver and conductor to facilitate the stunt. Both the driver and conductor have since been arrested and charged with carrying a person in a dangerous manner, in violation of Section 117 (1) and (2) of the Traffic and Road Safety Act (Cap. 347).
Authorities have continued to warn content creators against breaking the law under the pretense of entertainment. They caution that reckless behavior on social media platforms will not be tolerated and will face strict legal consequences.
