Fire Erupts on Landing Gear of American Airlines Jet in Denver

All 173 passengers and six crew members were safely evacuated from American Airlines Flight 3023 after the aircraft’s left main landing gear caught fire on the tarmac at Denver International Airport.

The Boeing 737 MAX 8, which was scheduled to fly to Miami, experienced the incident before takeoff. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire.

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

In a statement, American Airlines confirmed the incident and praised the swift actions of the flight crew and emergency responders.

“The aircraft was evacuated due to a reported mechanical issue,” the airline said. “We thank our team for their professionalism and our customers for their cooperation.”

Images shared on social media showed smoke near the aircraft’s wheels and fire crews responding at the scene. The fire was quickly extinguished, and the aircraft was towed for inspection.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified, and an investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

Sunday’s incident is likely to renew scrutiny over the Boeing 737 MAX 8, a model that has faced ongoing mechanical concerns since its reintroduction into service following two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019. However, it remains unclear whether this latest issue is related to any known design flaws.

Flight 3023 was canceled, and affected passengers are being rebooked.
