Several classrooms at Kakira High School—one of the largest government secondary schools in Kakira Town Council, Jinja District—were completely destroyed after a fire broke out on Sunday morning. The blaze reportedly started in the early hours and quickly spread, gutting multiple blocks before it could be contained.
Alarmed students rushed to alert teachers and nearby residents, and together they made frantic efforts to contain the fire before firefighters arrived.
However, the blaze—first spotted by students at around 7:00 a.m.—had already spread rapidly, destroying furniture, study materials, and tearing through the roof of the affected classrooms.

Firefighters from the police and nearby factories in Jinja responded swiftly and worked alongside local residents to bring the blaze under control.
While no injuries were reported, the damage to the classrooms was extensive. A teacher, who asked not to be named, said the school was already facing overcrowding challenges due to surging student enrollment, and the loss of more learning space is likely to worsen the situation.
