President Museveni Opens 1st Regional Ministerial Conference on Higher Education in Munyonyo

Kampala — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, on Monday officially opened the 1st Regional Ministerial Conference on the East African Community Common Higher Education Area (EACCHEA) at Munyonyo.

In his keynote address, the President called on East African nations to embrace deeper integration, describing it as the surest path to prosperity, security, and transformation.

“Unity in education, trade, and governance will expand our markets and help us overcome the divisive politics of identity,” Museveni said. He emphasized the need for education systems across the region to prepare citizens for regional and global markets, thereby driving socio-economic transformation.

The President further underscored that a prosperous East Africa is within reach if partner states work collectively and remain committed to building a shared future.

“A united East Africa will guarantee opportunities where every citizen can benefit from integration,” he added.

The conference brings together regional ministers, policymakers, and education stakeholders to chart a way forward for harmonized higher education standards within the East African Community (EAC).
