A team of medical specialists has officially been dispatched by Dr. Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, to provide free surgical services across all districts in Uganda’s West Nile region. The initiative aims to improve access to essential healthcare for underserved communities and reduce the backlog of surgical cases in the area.

The one-week initiative, organized by the Association of Surgeons of Uganda (ASOU), is expected to benefit more than 2,000 patients across the West Nile region. The surgical camp, dubbed “Restoring Health,” runs from September 20 to 27, and organizers say it reflects a strong commitment to expanding access to surgical care and creating lasting impact in underserved communities.

Dr. Diana Atwine, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, commended the initiative and expressed pride in the team’s dedication.

“Their efforts continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of thousands,” she said.
