Speaking at the Afro-Arab Congress in Munyonyo, Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni described Africa as “underpopulated,” noting that its 1.5 billion people remain a small share of the world’s seven billion.
Museveni cautioned against what he termed the “politics of identity,” rooted in divisions of tribe and religion, and instead called for a focus on “politics of interest” that advance common development objectives.
Drawing on regional lessons, he cited Sudan as an example of a country destabilized by identity-driven politics, warning Ugandans to remain vigilant as the nation approaches its next electoral cycle.
