Seven Turkish police officers were wounded in a shootout during an operation targeting suspected ISIL (ISIS) fighters, local media reported.
According to broadcaster TRT Haber, police conducted a raid at a residence in Elmalik village in Yalova province, south of Istanbul, on Sunday, when gunfire was exchanged.

The officers sustained minor injuries and were not seriously hurt, TRT Haber reported. It was not immediately clear whether any suspects were wounded or taken into custody.
Special forces from nearby Bursa province joined the operation to provide additional support and implement ongoing security measures in the area.
Access to the vicinity of the targeted home was restricted for both residents and vehicles, while the Yalova governorate temporarily suspended classes at five nearby schools, the broadcaster added.

On Thursday, Turkish authorities said they had conducted raids on 124 locations, arresting 115 suspected ISIL operatives.
The Istanbul chief prosecutor’s office said police had received intelligence that the suspects were “planning attacks in Türkiye, targeting non-Muslims in particular” during the holiday period.
Earlier this month, the United States military carried out extensive strikes against ISIL in central and northeastern Syria, hitting more than 70 targets. The strikes followed an attack in the Syrian city of Palmyra in which two US soldiers and an interpreter were killed.

Türkiye, which shares a border with Syria, has intensified its efforts against ISIL in recent years. Turkish authorities say some ISIL operatives relocated to the country in 2019 after the group lost control of its former strongholds in Iraq and Syria.
Previous raids in March led to the arrest of nearly 300 suspected ISIL members across 47 provinces over a two-week period.
Between 2013 and 2023, Turkish authorities detained more than 19,000 people suspected of having ties to the group, according to the Turkish presidency.
