Electoral Body Announces Issuance of Voter Location Slips for 2026 Polls

Updated by  HICGI News Agency at 1912 EAT on Thursday 8 January 2026

In preparation for the 2026 General Elections, the Electoral Commission has begun issuing Voter Location Slips (VLS) to registered voters nationwide. The slips are intended to help voters easily identify and locate their designated polling stations on election day.

The issuance exercise will run from 15 December 2025 to 13 January 2026 and will be conducted at the parish or ward level across the country.

Each Voter Location Slip contains a voter’s personal details, including their photograph, full names and date of birth, as well as polling information such as the district, constituency, sub-county, parish and specific polling station. The slips also feature a unique barcode, which will be scanned using Biometric Voter Verification Kits (BVVKs) deployed at all polling stations to facilitate voter verification.

The Voter Location Slip (VLS) will be used by voters in the following elections during the 2026 General Elections:
Presidential and Parliamentary elections
District and City Chairpersons and Councillors
Municipality and City Division Chairpersons and Councillors
Sub-county, Town, and Municipal Division Chairpersons and Councillors
The VLS is issued free of charge and must be collected in person by the voter from the Parish/Ward Supervisor, an Electoral Commission official. Only voters whose details appear on the Polling Day Register will be issued a VLS during this exercise.

All registered voters are encouraged to collect their VLS from their respective Parish Headquarters and to safeguard it to prevent damage or tampering with the barcode.

Voters can also confirm their polling station online using their National Identification Number (NIN) at http://www.ec.or.ug/register.

It is important to note that the National Voters’ Register remains the primary document for voting. Voters whose names appear on the register but who are unable to present a VLS on polling day will still be allowed to vote.
