The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has urged electricity consumers to purchase power units in advance of the upcoming general elections to avoid disruptions during the voting period.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, UEDCL cautioned that while it plans to maintain normal operations, election-related activities, public holidays, and potential restrictions on movement could affect access to power vending points, especially in areas with heightened security measures.

“Customers are encouraged to buy sufficient electricity units in advance to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the election period,” the utility said, stressing the importance of planning ahead to avoid last-minute challenges.
The company also assured the public that technical teams would remain on standby to respond to emergencies and faults, with priority given to critical installations, including hospitals, water facilities, and security agencies. UEDCL also reminded consumers to use official vending channels, such as mobile money platforms and authorised agents, to prevent fraud or delays.

Uganda is preparing for general elections, during which citizens will vote for the president, members of parliament, and local government leaders. The government has declared the election days as public holidays to allow citizens to participate fully in the voting process.
UEDCL’s advisory comes amid efforts to ensure essential services, such as electricity, water, and telecommunications, continue to operate smoothly during periods of national activity. Similar notices have been issued during previous elections to minimise inconvenience to the public and maintain service continuity.

“By planning early and purchasing units in advance, customers can avoid disruptions and ensure their homes and businesses continue running smoothly throughout the elections,” UEDCL said.
