AU Commission Chair Hails Algeria’s Successful Launch of Alsat-3A Satellite

According to the AUC, Algeria’s progress in the space sector contributes meaningfully to Africa’s collective advancement and long-term technological independence.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has congratulated the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria following the successful launch of the Alsat-3A Earth observation satellite, describing it as a major milestone for Africa’s space and geospatial development.

In a statement, Youssouf said the achievement highlights Algeria’s growing leadership in space science and its commitment to applying satellite technology to support sustainable development, environmental monitoring, disaster risk management, and evidence-based policymaking across the continent.

He expressed optimism that the high-resolution data generated by Alsat-3A will strengthen both national and continental development efforts, supporting key objectives outlined in Agenda 2063 as well as the African Space Policy and Strategy.

The African Union Commission also praised the strong international collaboration behind the satellite’s launch and commended Algeria for its continued investment in space technologies for peaceful purposes.
