Salim Uhuru Wins Re-Election as Kampala Central Mayor

Incumbent Salim Uhuru has been officially declared the winner of the Kampala Central Division mayoral race, securing 32,759 votes, the Electoral Commission announced.


The declaration came at the Kampala Central tally centre following the completion of vote counting from all polling stations across the division.

Uhuru, running on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket, emerged victorious over his main rivals in a closely fought contest.


The results were announced after several hours of delays at the tally centre, amid a tense atmosphere as supporters from different political parties watched the final count unfold.

Security personnel remained deployed at the tally centre to maintain order during and after the announcement.

Speaking shortly after being declared the winner, Uhuru thanked voters for renewing their trust in his leadership and pledged to continue focusing on service delivery, infrastructure development, and improved governance in Kampala Central.


The Kampala Central mayoral race was among the most closely watched contests in the capital, drawing significant attention due to its political importance and the high-profile candidates involved.

The Electoral Commission urged all candidates and their supporters to respect the declared results and to pursue any disputes through the appropriate legal channels.
