Uganda Christian University (UCU) is in mourning following the killing of its Director of Student Affairs, Pamela Tumwebaze, a young administrator remembered as a compassionate mentor and devoted mother whose life was cut short in a violent attack at her home.

Her death was confirmed on Wednesday morning, with the news quickly circulating on social media and within university circles. Students, staff, clergy and alumni expressed deep sorrow, describing her as a steady and caring presence in the lives of many.

Rev. Prof. John Kitayimbwa, a senior cleric at the university, conveyed the announcement in a statement reflecting the gravity of the loss.

“It is deeply saddening that Uganda Christian University has lost our beloved Pamela, our Director of Student Affairs, also known as the Dean of Students. We are heartbroken and ask for your prayers,” he said, quoting Psalm 90:12: “Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

Messages shared among university staff and alumni indicate that Tumwebaze was assaulted at her home overnight by unidentified attackers.

She was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to her injuries.

“This is devastating — to lose such a young life that was so well lived. Her love and mentorship will be deeply missed,” wrote Constance Ichuma Asere.

Rev. Nathan Balirwana Mugalu offered his condolences in a brief message: “May the Lord give strength to the family and the entire UCU community.”
