Pope Leo XIV will begin a 10-day visit to four African countries on April 13, marking his first pastoral trip to the continent, the Vatican has announced.
The pontiff is scheduled to travel to Algeria, Cameroon, Angola and Equatorial Guinea.
In Cameroon, he will visit the capital Yaoundé, the economic hub Douala and the Anglophone city of Bamenda in the restive Northwest region, where an armed conflict has been raging for nearly a decade.


The trip will mark the first time a pope has visited Algeria, a predominantly Muslim country.

During the trip, the pontiff will visit Algeria, Cameroon, Angola and Equatorial Guinea.
In Cameroon, his itinerary includes stops in the capital Yaoundé, the commercial centre Douala and the Anglophone city of Bamenda in the troubled Northwest region, where an armed separatist conflict has been ongoing for nearly 10 years.



The visit will also be historic, marking the first time a pope has travelled to Algeria, a country with a predominantly Muslim population.
