Uganda Celebrates International Women’s Day with All-Female Military Parade

Uganda marked International Women’s Day on Sunday with a historic all-women military parade, highlighting the country’s commitment to empowering women and girls. This year’s celebrations followed the national theme: “Scaling up investment to accelerate access to justice for women and girls across Uganda.”

Vice President Jessica Alupo read President Yoweri Museveni’s address, in which he emphasized that International Women’s Day is an occasion to recognize the indispensable role of women and girls in driving both community progress and national development.

President Yoweri Museveni said the government has long championed the empowerment of women and girls through education, supportive legislation, and economic programs, enabling their full participation in national development.

“Education and skilling of the girl-child is an effective method of empowering not only women but the entire society,” Museveni stated.


The all-women military parade, attended by foreign envoys, featured participants from various security forces. The celebrations were further enriched with cultural performances, including traditional songs and dances, highlighting Uganda’s diverse heritage.
