Environmental conservation efforts received a boost as the Heal The Planet Global Organisation (HTP) President and team joined H.E Prof Gilbert Bukenya, the Senior Presidential Adviser on Environment and EX Vice President of Uganda in an initiative to reclaim Kyewaga Central Forest located in Bayita, Entebbe, Wakiso District.

The forest, which spans approximately 24 acres, holds historical significance in the Buganda Kingdom. In earlier years, the forest provided some of the strongest timber used by the Kabakas of Buganda to construct royal boats. However, over time the once-thriving forest was encroached upon by wealthy individuals, leading to severe degradation of the ecosystem.

During the restoration exercise, members of Heal The Planet Global Organisation and Prof. Bukenya planted trees as part of efforts to revive the forest and restore its environmental and historical value.
Kyewaga Central Forest is supposed to be protected by the National Forestry Authority, the government body mandated to manage and conserve central forest reserves across Uganda. Environmentalists say initiatives such as tree planting and public awareness are vital to reversing the effects of deforestation and ensuring sustainable management of the country’s natural resources.

The restoration campaign reflects growing efforts by environmental activists, community leaders, and government officials to safeguard Uganda’s forests for future generations while preserving sites of cultural and historical importance.
