Jacob Oulanyah’s Father Adiyo Dies at 97 on Death Anniversary of Son

Nathan L’Okori Adiyo, father of former Speaker of Parliament Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah, has died at the age of 97.


He passed away on Friday at St Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Gulu City, where he had been admitted two days earlier with respiratory complications.

His death coincides with the fourth anniversary of Oulanyah’s passing, who died on March 20, 2022, in the United States.

Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has expressed sorrow following the death of Nathan L’Okori Adiyo, extending her condolences to the bereaved family, the parliamentary fraternity, and all who knew him.


In a condolence message shared on her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Among said she received the news with deep sadness.

“It is with a heavy heart that I inform our esteemed colleagues, the parliamentary fraternity, and all who loved our brother… that his father… has passed away,” she wrote. She added that funeral arrangements would be communicated after consultations with the family.


Before his death, L’Okori had been living a quiet life at his late son’s home in Ayom Lony village, Lalogi Sub-county in Omoro District.


His son, Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah, served as the 11th Speaker of Parliament after rising from the position of Deputy Speaker, which he held from 2011 to 2021.
