Manchester City produced a dominant second-half performance to defeat Arsenal 2-0 and win the 2026 Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
The victory secured City’s ninth League Cup title and reaffirmed their dominance in domestic competitions under manager Pep Guardiola.
After a tightly contested first half, both teams went into the break level at 0-0, with few clear scoring opportunities created. Arsenal appeared organised defensively, while City struggled to break through their backline.

However, the match turned in the second half as City raised their intensity and capitalised on key errors. Nico O’Reilly opened the scoring in the 60th minute, heading in from close range after a goalkeeping mistake.
Just four minutes later, O’Reilly struck again, rising above Arsenal’s defence to head home his second goal of the match and effectively seal the victory for City.
Arsenal, who came into the match in strong form and were widely considered favourites, found it difficult to respond. Despite enjoying spells of possession, they failed to create clear-cut chances against a disciplined City defence.
Manager Mikel Arteta expressed disappointment after the match, admitting his side fell below expectations in a crucial final. He, however, remained optimistic that the team would learn from the defeat and improve.

The loss is a significant setback for Arsenal, who were hoping to secure silverware and strengthen their bid for a successful season. Their wait for a League Cup title, last won in 1993, continues.
For Manchester City, the triumph adds another trophy to their growing collection and highlights their experience and composure in high-pressure matches. Guardiola’s tactical adjustments in the second half proved decisive in breaking down Arsenal’s resistance.
The result further strengthens City’s position as one of the most successful teams in English football in recent years, while Arsenal will now shift focus to their remaining competitions as they aim to bounce back from the disappointment.
