Christopher Okello Onyum, accused of killing four toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre, has been committed to the High Court to face trial on four counts of murder.

The victims — Gideon Eteku, Keisha Agenorworth Otim, Ignitius Sseruyange, and Ryan Odeke — were aged between one and two-and-a-half years. They attended a daycare run by Ggaba Community Church, which provides care for vulnerable and malnourished infants.

According to committal papers filed by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the killings were premeditated. Prosecutors allege that Onyum bought knives days earlier, rented a vehicle, and visited the facility under the guise of a parent seeking admission to assess the premises.

On the day of the attack, he reportedly paid Shs180,000 via mobile money before allegedly launching a knife assault on the children. The prosecution claims he targeted the toddlers systematically and threatened a caretaker who tried to stop him. Onyum was subdued by staff and members of the public before police intervened.

Investigators recovered a bloodstained knife believed to have been used in the attack, along with two other knives found in Onyum’s possession. Postmortem reports indicate that the children died from shock caused by severe injuries.

Authorities also collected CCTV footage, DNA samples, mobile phones, and financial transaction records linking the suspect to the scene. Prosecutors allege that, although Onyum had no diagnosed mental illness, he reportedly believed in acquiring wealth through human sacrifice, suggesting a possible ritualistic motive.

The case now awaits hearing in the High Court following committal by Makindye Chief Magistrate Sarah Basemera.
