Kivumbi Speaks in UN-ICAO-AFI-Security & Aviation Safety Summit.

United Nation’s International Civil Aviation Organisation –ICAO on Friday 17th May 2019 concluded its 6th Africa and Indian Ocean (AFI) Aviation Week at Speke Resort Munyonyo-Kampala Uganda which began on 13th May. Uganda was selected by Montreal, Canada based UN Aviation Headquarters to host this remarkable Summit due to multiple factors HICGI News Agency has learnt among which include the Peace and Good Governance the country is enjoying.

The opening ceremony was graced on behalf of the Prime Minister by Uganda’s Ministry of Works and Transport Minister, Hon. Monica Azuba Ntege, ICAO Secretary General, Dr. Fang Liu a Chinese National and first woman to be elected to the important body, Directors General of Civil Aviation Authorities, aviation safety and security representatives, experts of AFI Region Member States, and other representatives and experts from international and regional organizations.

Hon Azuba described the hosting of the AFI aviation week and Dr. Liu’s personal presence as a vote of confidence in Uganda’s commitment to upholding global aviation standards. A number of issues were discussed ranging from opportunities to improve the effective implementation of critical elements of the State safety and security oversight systems, and deliberate on emerging issues with special focus on safety and security

Speaking on Thursday, Heal The Planet Global Organisation-HTP President Kivumbi Earnest Benjamin sought ICAO’s position in compensation plans and claims in eventualities of plane crushes by families of the victims. Several ICAO bosses responded to kivumbi’s concerns and regarded the issue as very sensitive. In private engagements however one ICOA official representing Kenya and Uganda in Canada revealed to Kivumbi the various International Pacts including Warsaw Convention and Montreal 1999 Convention and several other European Agreements that aim at safeguarding and compensating families of victims of aviation accidents and incidences.

HTP enjoys privileges of participating in UN Meetings around the world due to the Special Consultative Status it holds with the Global Body since 2017. Kivumbi lead 13 other HTP officials in the one week summit including;

Kivumbi equally cut his 30th Birth day alongside his wife who was also celebrating 25 years on Wednesday 14th May.

Uganda Civil Aviation Authority-CAA alongside its South African counter part hosted a Gala Dinner for ICAO Delegates at Lake Victoria Serena Hotel entertained by Ndere Troops cross to midnight on Wednesday Night.

Other key meetings at the event included; Sixth Aviation Safety Symposium of the Africa-Indian Ocean (AFI) Region, 22nd Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Comprehensive Regional Implementation Plan for Aviation Safety in Africa (AFI Plan) and 4th AFI Aviation Security and Facilitation Symposium, 8th meeting of the steering committee of the comprehensive regional implementation plan for aviation security and facilitation in Africa (AFI SECFAL Plan).

Participants had an opportunity to highlight the benefits of aviation as an enabler to economic development, promote development of National Aviation Plans, raise awareness on air connectivity in Africa through the Single African Transport Market, and present the results of the Infrastructure Development Gap Analysis in Africa.
