Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni Uganda’s long serving President has earlier today (Monday 2nd Nov 2020) been duly nominated by the Electoral Commission as a candidate.
Shortly after his candidature approval ‘Tib’ warned Ugandans on COVID 19 reminding them as being deadly. “In recent days, among others, we lost an environment expert, Paul Mafabi, and my good friend, Francis Xavier Kitaka, the veterinary expert and entrepreneur. Do not take this disease lightly. The talk that the villages are insulated from Covid-19 is false.” Museveni said and called upon the public to follow all guidelines of health experts which include Sanitizing, wearing masks and observing social distancing.
“I hear talk that some people want to cause chaos. Those plans will not succeed. Anyone planning mischief will fail. No one should threaten Ugandans with chaos.” Museveni said and called upon Ugandas to maintain peace.”
He also appreciated two young National Resistance Movement cadres Nassur Gaddafi and Hellen Seku for norminating him. He further thanked the rest of his entourage led by the NRM vice-chairperson Al-Hajj Moses Kigongo and the Secretary General, Justine Lumumba as well as NRM supporters in the districts who signed his endorsement forms.
Museveni latter headed to Common Wealth Speak Resort Munyonyo where the ceremony of NRM manifesto launch is happening.
Other candidates also nominated today at Kyambogo University by EC include Henry Tumukunde (independent), Mugisha Muntu (Alliance for National Transformation), and Nancy Linda Kalembe (independent).
A young man known as John Katumba (independent) a fresh graduant from Makerere University has missed being nominated due to failure to prove payment of 20m UGX needed for this exercise. Speaking to journalists following this trauma, Katumba has he carried the money in cash after failing to bank it due to lack of Tax Identification Number. He cursed EC for failing him yet he had secured needed signatures from relevant districts as well as the money. Katumba initially moving in a Supercustom vehicle got a tyre puncture making him abandon his car with traffic police and run on foot.
National Unity Platform aspirant, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine; Patrick Oboi Amuriat of Forum for Democratic Change party and Independents; Willy Mayambala, Fred Mwesigye, Joseph Kiiza Kabuleeta will be nominated on Tuesday.
