Losers’ Match: Bulemeezi 1-0 Mawokota

WAKISO- Buddu sailed past Buwekula to clinch the second Airtel Masaza Cup title during the 2021 grand finale played in a fully packed St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday.

Following a goalless first stanza, Buddu returned stronger from recess to score through captain Marvin Kavuma and Bruno Bunyaga in a finale graced by the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

Kavuma sent the crowd into a mini panic frenzy when he met a Gideon Odongo freekick from the right to head home past Buwekula goalkeeper, Isaac Kwizera, after 60 minutes.

13 minutes later, Bunyaga doubled the advantage when he beat the offside trap to tap home a well delivered cross from point blank range, taking his tally to six goals in the campaign.

Victory guided Buddu to their second championship having won their maiden title in 2016 when they beat Gomba at the Mandela National stadium in Namboole.

In the classification match, 2019 champions Bulemeezi beat Mawokota 1-0 courtesy of Gabriel Eragu’s second half strike to finish third and take home seven million Ugandan shillings (Shs 7M) as prize money.

Buddu goalkeeper Michael Lutaya was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament while Isaac Musiima (Buwekula) took home the golden boot with six goals.

Buwekula received the Fair Play award for being the most disciplined team.
