Trailer knocks five dead in Bulambuli.

Five people have been knocked dead in a road accident in Bulambuli district, eastern Uganda. 

The accident occurred on Tuesday at 10 pm at Buyaga town council in Bulambuli district along the Muyembe-Nakapiripirit road when the victims, who, were riding on a motorcycle registration number, UFL 488F Bajaj were knocked by a trailer registration number UAR 753K. 

Rogers Taitika the Elgon Region police spokesperson identified the dead as Rogers Namawongu, a resident of Sironko, Zida Mutonyi, Rose Watsemwa. The police are yet to identify the other two victims.

According to Taitika, the truck from Mbale was heading to Kapchrowa. Paulo Mugoga, an eyewitness attributed the accident to overspeeding by the truck driver.

He says that the driver lost control and rammed into the five. According to Taika, the police are hunting for the driver of the truck who fled after the accident.

The bodies were taken to Muyembe health centre IV for postmortem. According to traffic police statistics, 118 people were killed in road crashes between April 24 and May 4, translating into 12 people or more losing their lives every day.
