“Africa should be an arena for international cooperation rather than a ‘wrestling ground’ for big powers,” Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang said on Wednesday, adding that it is cooperation not confrontation that really counts for Africa and no country in the world has the right to force African countries to take sides.

Qin made the remarks when being asked about his view on the second U.S.-Africa summit at a joint press briefing with African Union Commission Chairman Moussa FakiMahamat.

China is happy to see that other countries’ sincere efforts for helping Africa attain peace and development and China is also willing to cooperate with other countries to contribute for Africa’s development and revitalization, Qin said.

Qin also mentioned that China and Africa have a long history of friendship and the two sides have developed a relationship of sincerity, real results, amity and good faith in pursuing cooperation.

He introduced the assistance results China has achieved in the sector of infrastructure projects, education, medical and health aid and agriculture in Africa over the past two decades, saying that these results played key roles in promoting Africa’s social and economic development and improving people’s well-being.
