Kasese Catholic Diocese, Kithende Hostels In Bitter Land Wrangle

Kasese catholic diocese and Kithende Hostels Project are involved in a bitter wrangle over land at Rwentutu village, Lake Katwe Sub County in Busongora County South, Kasese district.

The land in question is about 200 acres along the Kabirizi – Kyarumba road.

The conflict between the two institutions started in 2005/2006 with disagreements over the ownership. In December 2022 Aprunalis Kalhibogha Kithende the proprietor of Kithende Hostels Project was arrested and charged with trespass and intimidation.

The diocese accuses Kithende of encroaching on the land. On the other hand, kithende accuses church leaders of being misled by fraudsters because no legal documents have been availed to back up their claim.

Peskezia Ithungu and Elizabeth Kyakimwa some of the occupants of the land re worried that the conflict is going to cost their crops before they could harvest.

Lt Joel Walusimbi the Resident District Commissioner has halted all the activities in a bid to settle the matter.
