Malawi’s High Court has rejected an application by the government to uphold the suspension of the head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Martha Chizuma.

Chizuma was suspended on January 31 after an audio clip that seemingly suggested she and other high-ranking officials were obstructing justice went viral.

She was arrested in December for the same issue but was later released on the orders of President Lazarus Chakwera.

At the time, Chakwera said he had reprimanded the ACB head for her remarks, but would not sack her.

However, late last week, the secretary to the president and cabinet, Colleen Zamba, however interdicted Chizuma.

The court’s ruling on Wednesday suspended the interdiction order and essentially means Chizuma can return to work.
