The UK government has announced a significant financial commitment of Shs4.8 billion to bolster Uganda’s response to Mpox, a viral disease that has raised public health concerns.
The announcement was made during a courtesy visit by Acting High Commissioner Philip Smith to the Ministry of Health, where he met with Minister Jane Ruth Aceng.

This funding will be allocated through two key organizations: Baylor College of Medicine and the Infectious Disease Institute. The initiative aims to enhance various aspects of Uganda’s Mpox response, including coordination efforts, surveillance measures, risk communication strategies, and community engagement activities.
The British High Commission in Kampala emphasized the importance of this support in strengthening Uganda’s capacity to manage and mitigate the effects of Mpox. This collaboration underscores the UK’s commitment to global health and its partnership with Uganda in addressing infectious diseases.
The Ministry of Health has welcomed this assistance, highlighting that it will play a crucial role in protecting public health and raising awareness about Mpox in the community. As Uganda continues to navigate the challenges posed by infectious diseases, this funding is expected to facilitate a more robust response and improved health outcomes for the population.
