KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Ambassador of Algeria to Uganda, H.E. Amokrane Mourad, on Monday paid a courtesy visit to leading Ugandan fruit, coffee, and cocoa exporters led by Laban Musinguzi, Chief Executive Officer of Flobeth Holdings Ltd and Agro Fresh Uganda, in a move aimed at strengthening trade relations between the two countries.

The visit followed a series of engagements held earlier at the Algerian Embassy in Kampala, which were initiated and coordinated by Dr. Kivumbi Earnest Benjamin, L.H.D (Hon), President of Heal The Planet Global Organisation (HTP).

The guided tour forms part of ongoing efforts to open up the Algerian market to Ugandan agricultural exports, particularly coffee, cocoa, fruits, and other value-added products. Algeria has increasingly emerged as a strategic trade partner for Uganda, especially following recent bilateral agreements aimed at boosting trade and economic cooperation.

Uganda has already registered notable export success to Algeria. Last year, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni flagged off the first consignment of Ugandan milk exports to Algeria at State House, marking a significant milestone in the growing commercial relationship between the two nations.

The development came after sustained diplomatic engagements between Kampala and Algiers, with both governments expressing commitment to enhancing trade volumes and creating new opportunities for businesses on both sides.

Recently, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune described Uganda as a key strategic ally and a potential major supplier of agricultural products to the North African nation, signaling growing confidence in Uganda’s production capacity and export potential.

Speaking to HICGI News Agency after the tour, Ambassador Mourad expressed satisfaction with the visit and praised Agro Fresh Uganda for its operations and commitment to quality standards.

“I am pleased to have visited these facilities and gained a better understanding of the company’s operations. Uganda possesses significant agricultural potential, and there are opportunities to deepen trade cooperation between our countries,” Ambassador Mourad said.

As a gesture of goodwill, Laban Musinguzi presented the Ambassador with premium Ugandan coffee beans, emphasizing Uganda’s ability to consistently supply high-quality products at competitive prices.

Musinguzi said Ugandan exporters are ready to meet the demands of the Algerian market and called for stronger partnerships to facilitate greater access for local products.

“We are committed to delivering world-class products and maintaining the highest quality standards. Uganda has enormous production capacity, and with the right partnerships, we can significantly increase exports to Algeria and other international markets,” he said.

Meanwhile, Michael Wadada, Head of Strategy, Marketing and Impact at Flobeth Holdings Ltd, revealed that the company’s digital agricultural platform currently serves approximately 1.5 million farmers across Uganda, helping connect producers to reliable markets and improving agricultural value chains.

Wadada noted that the initiative receives support from government programs such as Operation Wealth Creation, as well as financial backing and banking guarantees that enable the company to efficiently serve both local and international markets.

He emphasized that technology-driven market access solutions are playing a critical role in transforming Uganda’s agricultural sector and increasing export readiness among farmers.

The visit comes at a time when African nations are increasingly looking to leverage the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework, which seeks to promote intra-African trade, reduce barriers to commerce, and create a single continental market for goods and services.

Stakeholders believe that stronger trade partnerships between Uganda and Algeria could serve as a model for expanding commercial ties across Africa, while creating new opportunities for farmers, exporters, investors, and consumers on the continent.During the visit, Ambassador Mourad toured Agro Fresh Uganda’s facilities and warehouse in Nalukolongo, Lubaga Division, Kampala, where Musinguzi and his team showcased the various stages involved in processing, handling, quality assurance, packaging, and preparation of agricultural products destined for international markets.
