President Museveni to Join Parliament in Honouring Gen Moses Ali

President Yoweri Museveni is expected to join Parliament on Tuesday for a special sitting to pay tribute to former First Deputy Prime Minister and Adjumani West MP, Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, ahead of his burial in Adjumani District.

The special sitting, scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m., will bring together legislators and other dignitaries to honour the veteran politician and military officer, whose body will later be flown to his ancestral home in Adjumani.

In a communication to Members of Parliament, Government Chief Whip Dr Jane Ruth Aceng confirmed that President Museveni would attend the tribute.

“I have received information that H.E. the President will join us to pay tribute to Hon. Gen. Moses Ali in Parliament on Tuesday, 21 July 2026, at 9:00 a.m.,” Aceng said.

She called on legislators to report by 8:00 a.m. to allow sufficient time for mandatory security screening before the President’s arrival.

“I humbly request members to come early by 8:00 a.m. and complete the security checks on time,” she said.

According to Aceng, Gen. Ali’s body will be airlifted to Adjumani District immediately after the parliamentary tribute, ahead of his burial on Wednesday.

Gen. Ali died on Saturday after a distinguished public career spanning several decades. He served in successive governments as a senior military officer, Cabinet minister and Member of Parliament, making him one of Uganda’s longest-serving public servants.

His death has drawn tributes from across the political divide and the wider public, with Parliament’s special sitting expected to be among the key national events in honour of his legacy.

On Sunday, hundreds of Muslims gathered at the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Kibuli Campus, Kibuli Mosque and the Uganda National Mosque in Kampala to offer special funeral prayers for the late Gen. Ali.
