Watoto Church will host the thanksgiving service for Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s 33rd coronation anniversary on Friday, July 31, 2026, at its Bweyogerere campus, marking the first time an evangelical church has hosted the annual royal event.

The announcement was made during a press conference addressed by Buganda Kingdom Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga and Watoto Church leaders ahead of the celebrations.

Watoto Church Senior Pastor and Team Leader Julius Rwotlonyo said the church was honoured to host the service and thanked the Kingdom of Buganda for entrusting it with the occasion.

“As a church, we welcome every opportunity to give thanks to God. The service will glorify God and honour the Kabaka and the people of Buganda. I appreciate the Katikkiro and the organising team for their cooperation throughout the preparation journey,” Rwotlonyo said.

Mayiga said the kingdom has made it a tradition to hold coronation anniversary thanksgiving prayers at different places of worship, adding that this year’s service will be the first to be hosted by an evangelical church.

“It pleased His Majesty the Kabaka to come to Watoto Church. I am very happy that you agreed to host the service as we pray for the Kabaka, the kingdom and the country. We are grateful for this partnership and look forward to celebrating God’s goodness together,” Mayiga said.

The thanksgiving service is open to the public, with organisers inviting Christians, subjects of the Buganda Kingdom and well-wishers to attend the celebrations.
