Jayden Seales Claims Five Wickets as West Indies Defeat Pakistan in First Test

Fast bowler Jayden Seales claimed his fourth five-wicket haul to lead the West Indies to a 90-run victory over Pakistan in the opening Test match in Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago.

After securing a narrow 29-run first-innings lead, the West Indies were bowled out for 181 in their second innings on Tuesday, the fourth day of play, setting Pakistan a target of 211 runs for victory.

Seales then delivered a match-winning spell as the hosts’ bowling attack dismissed Pakistan, sealing a memorable opening-Test triumph.

Jayden Seales produced a brilliant five-wicket haul as the West Indies pace attack dismantled Pakistan’s batting lineup, bowling them out for 120 to secure a 90-run victory in the opening Test at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago.

Seales finished with figures of 5-20, while his fellow fast bowlers delivered a superb display of pace and accuracy to wrap up Pakistan’s innings in just over 40 overs, with a day of play still remaining.

Pakistan captain Babar Azam top-scored with an unbeaten 58 and shared a brief partnership with number 11 Mohammad Abbas, who made 23, but the result was all but decided after Pakistan collapsed to 71-9.

Shan Masood, Pakistan’s number three batter who suffered a fractured finger while scoring 109 in the first innings, returned to bat at number eight in the second innings. He managed three runs before being dismissed by Seales.

West Indies captain Roston Chase dedicated the victory to legendary former captain Garry Sobers, who passed away earlier this month.

“We wanted to make him proud and had a chat about it before the match. I hope he is smiling down on us,” Chase said after the win.

“I love the direction this team is heading. We are not relying on one or two players; everyone is contributing at crucial moments.”

Babar Azam said Pakistan’s inability to build partnerships was the main reason behind their defeat.

“Today, as a batting unit, we were not up to the mark. We kept losing wickets back-to-back, and the batting failed. That’s something we are working on,” he said.
