A delegation from the National Defence College – Uganda (NDC-U) Intake 4/2025–2026 has undertaken an academic and strategic study tour in Algeria, underscoring the growing defence diplomacy and military cooperation between the two African nations.
The visit forms part of the college’s broader strategic training programme aimed at exposing senior military officers and civilian participants to international security dynamics, regional cooperation frameworks, and global defence best practices.
Led by Brigadier General Alex Olupot, the delegation toured the historic Central Army Museum “Late President Chadli Bendjedid”, situated near the iconic Maqam Echahid in Algiers’ El Madania district.

Particular attention was devoted to Algeria’s maritime history, including the exploits of renowned naval commander Rais Hammidou, whose leadership played a pivotal role in safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity and maritime interests
The officers also explored historical accounts showcasing the leadership, resilience, and unity that shaped Algeria’s national identity and underpinned its resistance movements across different periods of history.
A major highlight of the visit was the museum’s exhibition on the Algerian War of Independence, which chronicles Algeria’s struggle for independence from 1954 to 1962.
The exhibition showcases original wartime documents, weapons, photographs, and reconstructed revolutionary assembly sites, offering the delegation deeper insight into the sacrifices, resilience, and determination that defined the Algerian people’s anti-colonial struggle.
Speaking after the tour, Brigadier General Alex Olupot commended the professionalism and institutional strength of Algeria’s People’s National Army (ANP), while applauding the Algerian people for preserving and promoting their revolutionary heritage and military history for future generations.

The delegation was received by Colonel Mustapha Hezazi, who praised the leadership of the National Defence College – Uganda for advancing strategic-level military education and expanding international exposure for senior officers.
Colonel Mustapha Hezazi emphasised the increasing role of defence diplomacy, academic collaboration, and strategic knowledge exchange among African countries, saying such engagements are crucial in fostering stronger continental partnerships and mutual trust.
“The visit by such a distinguished institution as NDC-U is a testament to the longstanding and cordial relations between our two countries,” he noted.
He added that continued interaction between military academic institutions plays a key role in strengthening professional ties, improving interoperability, and encouraging collective responses to emerging regional and global security threats.
The Ugandan delegation also comprised College Secretary Brigadier General Tweheyo, Senior Directing Staff Brigadier General Muhwezi, College Coordinator Colonel Arigye, and Head of Postgraduate Studies Professor Murindwa Rutanga.
