Chelsea Eye Aurélien Tchouaméni Move Amid Potential Enzo Fernández Transfer to Real Madrid This Summer

Chelsea are expected to make a move for Aurélien Tchouaméni should Enzo Fernández complete a transfer to Real Madrid this summer, according to Defensa Central.

Fernández has been heavily linked with a switch to the Spanish giants in recent weeks and was previously suspended by Chelsea for two matches earlier in the season following comments related to a potential move to the Bernabéu.

The west London club are understood to be open to selling the Argentine midfielder this summer but are aiming to recoup most, if not all, of the £106.8m they paid to sign him from Benfica in 2023.

Tchouaméni viewed as Fernández replacement

While it remains unclear whether Real Madrid will meet the valuation required to sign the 25-year-old, Chelsea are reportedly already identifying alternatives, with Tchouaméni seen as a potential replacement should Fernández depart for the Bernabéu.

Incoming head coach Xabi Alonso is reportedly keen to work with Aurélien Tchouaméni again, a factor that could open the door for the French midfielder to move to Stamford Bridge should Real Madrid succeed in their pursuit of Enzo Fernández.
Los Blancos are understood to be willing to sanction the 26-year-old’s departure this summer, provided their valuation is met.

A move to the Premier League has previously been mooted, with Manchester United also credited with an interest in the France international.

A switch to Chelsea would reunite Tchouaméni with Alonso, who is said to have worked closely with him during his short stint in charge at Real Madrid.

Tchouaméni, currently away with the France squad at the 2026 World Cup, is not the only midfielder linked with a potential exit from the Spanish club, with compatriot Eduardo Camavinga also among those who could be available.

Additionally, Tchouaméni is not the only midfielder on Chelsea’s radar, with Sunderland’s Granit Xhaka also emerging as a priority target for the west London club.
Xhaka is another player previously worked with by Alonso, having played a key role in Bayer Leverkusen’s 2023/24 Bundesliga title-winning campaign.

The 33-year-old, like Tchouaméni, is currently on international duty at the 2026 World Cup, with Switzerland preparing for their round-of-32 clash against Algeria on Friday.

Tchouaméni, meanwhile, is hoping to help France secure victory over Sweden on Tuesday night. The winner of that tie will face Paraguay in the last 16, after they advanced via a penalty shootout win over Germany.
