Dr. Ddamulira Ssengonzi, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, has been recognised as Uganda Public Finance Management Champion by Public Opinions.

The award forms part of the Responsible Investment Global Award, an initiative by Public Opinions aimed at recognising individuals contributing to socio-economic transformation and improved governance in Uganda.

According to the organisers, Dr. Ssengonzi was selected for his contribution to strengthening financial management systems within government, particularly in promoting accountability and oversight in public expenditure.

Public Opinions Public Relations Director, Vivian Nakimuli, said Dr. Ssengonzi has played a notable role in efforts to combat corruption, particularly at the district level where service delivery challenges are often most pronounced.

The organisation’s Team Leader, Buyinza Adam Luzindana, described him as “committed to the national development agenda” and “loyal to President Museveni.”
In his role at the ministry, Dr. Ssengonzi has been involved in overseeing internal audit processes, financial management systems, procurement coordination and administrative operations. He has also been credited by the organisers with supporting improved budget transparency and monitoring of public funds across districts.

Public Opinions said the Responsible Investment Global Award is reserved for individuals they consider to have demonstrated integrity and leadership in public service. Previous recipients include President Yoweri Museveni, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Gen David Mugisha, Mr Edwin Karugire, Permanent Secretary Vincent Bagiire, Dr Diana Atwiine, Dr Pius Bigirimana and Dr Mathias Magoola.
