Two Sons Arrested in Connection With Alleged Killing of 95-Year-Old Mother

Two sons are in custody at Kagadi Central Police Station for allegedly beheading their 95-year-old mother, Angela Kabagenzi, following a dispute over family land.

The suspects, identified as Bijja Peter and Insigoma, both residents of Matuntu A Village in Bwikara Sub-county, Kagadi District, are accused of killing Kabagenzi on Saturday night and dumping her body in a nearby sugarcane plantation.

Police said the incident is believed to have stemmed from a long-running dispute over the ownership and control of family land.

Police said investigations were aided by a sniffer dog, Marshal, which was deployed at the scene and successfully picked up a scent believed to have been left by the suspects.

According to police, the dog followed the scent trail to Bijja’s home before proceeding to Isingoma’s residence.

During interrogation, police said Isingoma led detectives to a location where Kabagenzi’s head was recovered.

Christopher Buruge, the Matuntu Village LC I chairperson, said residents were shocked on Sunday morning after discovering Kabagenzi’s beheaded body in a nearby sugarcane plantation.

Buruge said Kabagenzi had recently distributed part of the family land among her children, but some of them protested, arguing that the allocation was unfair and unequal. He said the disagreement over the land may have triggered the attack on their mother.

Following the discovery of the body, Buruge said he notified police at Kagadi Central Police Station, who responded and launched investigations that led to the arrest of the suspects.
