Billionaires have reached unprecedented levels of wealth and influence, increasingly shaping global politics, public policy, financial markets and the rapidly evolving artificial intelligence sector—developments that have, in turn, accelerated the fortunes of the world’s richest individuals to historic highs.

A record 3,428 entrepreneurs, investors and heirs feature on this year’s World’s Billionaires list, according to the latest global rankings—an increase of 400 compared to 2025. Put differently, the world added more than one new billionaire every day over the past 12 months.

The combined wealth of this elite group has also surged significantly. Collectively, the billionaire class is now an estimated $4 trillion richer than a year ago, pushing total net worth to a record $20.1 trillion.

The growth has been driven largely by strong performance in global equity markets, particularly in technology, artificial intelligence and financial services, where soaring valuations have significantly boosted fortunes.

As a result, the average billionaire’s net worth has risen to $5.8 billion, up from $5.3 billion in 2025, underscoring the widening concentration of wealth at the very top of the global economy.

Analysts note that the surge in AI-related investments has played a particularly significant role in reshaping wealth creation, with new companies and established tech giants alike driving rapid gains in valuations and personal fortunes.
The rankings were compiled using stock prices and exchange rates as of March 1, 2026.
